November is Native American History Month. During National Native American Heritage Month, we celebrate the countless contributions of Native peoples past and present, honor the influence they have had on the advancement of our Nation. While our history is often painful, is important to recognize the culture and beauty of those who lived here before exploration brought adventure and settlers to our shores. Native Americans are attributed to many inventions and innovations we use today. While science and technology may have made changes and advancements it was Native Americans who first utilized many of the following.

  • Cultivation of corn
  • Rubber
  • Kayaks
  • Snow goggles
  • Cable suspension bridges
  • Raised bed agriculture
  • Baby bottles
  • Anesthetics and topical pain relievers
  • Syringes
  • Hammocks
